Master Painters of New Zealand

Master Painters New Zealand Association Inc., has been around for some time, over 100 years in fact. Comprising 17 affiliated branches around the country, members of the Master Painters Association literally cover New Zealand.

Just as paint has evolved over the years, the Association has evolved to ensure its values are as meaningful today as they were all those years ago. Values such as ethics, workmanship and knowledge.

In the early days the first job facing a painter was to actually mix the various components to make the paint, there was no such thing as tinted or coloured paint. You had to make your own colours. In order to procure these ingredients at discounted rates you had to belong to a trade group or association. How things have changed since then.

With modern paint products, the ease of obtaining the paint colour of choice has created a much more do it yourself attitude. But therein lies a problem. Modern paint products are much more sophisticated than those that were laboriously hand mixed all those years ago and being easy to obtain and apply, can be a trap for the unwary.

Man Painting new home

In some cases, new products are not entirely compatible with some of the older types and imprudent application over surfaces that have not been properly prepared can cause major problems. In the haste to have a job done quickly, or more often, cheaply, there is tendency to accept anyone who calls themselves a painter without checking their credentials, or their ability to do the job properly.

One simple way to ensure you are getting the right person for the job is to select a member of the Master Painters Association, there is an association near you.

The benefits of using a Registered Master Painter can be categorised by the qualities mentioned above. Ethics Workmanship and Knowledge plus, back up support. Knowledge, not only of the product, but business knowledge, for it is preferable to have educated competition among members, rather than uneducated competition from non-members.

By belonging to the Master Painters Association, a member shows that they have the above attributes and are prepared to abide by the rules and ethics imposed on them by membership.

Should a problem arise, and they do, the local Association will adjudicate and move to have the problem rectified.
