by Editorial Team - Build Your Dream

kitset house shellIf you are unsure as of the size or how well your new building is going to fit or look on site use stakes and a line such as a fishing line, electric fence reel or a builders line to mark out the building and the individual rooms. This will help give a much better perspective and avoid any future surprises, such as no longer having room for the volleyball net.

Be as pro-active as possible try and supply all relevant information relevant to your site. Your local territorial authority is generally the best source of information. They will advise you of any known complications or specifics pertaining to your site. Such things as whether you may require a Resource Consent, a Geotechnical Report, have building platform restrictions, height restrictions, what the snow loads are and wind zones etc. This is very important in the initial stages of the planning.

He will be able to help with site information and offer advise regarding building time frames, sub trades and associated costs. He should be happy to communicate with the Kitset Company to gain an early understanding of their process and to this end his early inclusion in the project is in every ones best interests.

One point to note:
If you are building in the South Island you will find the cost of materials and the cost of building in general will be higher than in the North Island. Ensure your kitset company and your builder have reflected this in their pricing to you, this will save awkward moments at a later stage.
