What is the difference between Home Integration and Home Automation?

Home Integration is where we take a product and merge it into the home. An example of this would be a home computer network where there are cables in the walls and outlets around the home. Home Automation is where we take these individual devices and make them work together. An example of this could be where the alarm system is connected to the home lighting and turns on all the lights and unlocks the front door if the system detects that there is a fire or medical emergency!

A fully automated house is a building that can adjust its environment without imposing itself on the occupants. It can adjust the levels of lighting, temperature, and security in response to external stimulus. Semi-intelligent appliances have been with us for a long time, we have become accustomed to having the hot water temperature maintained by the hot water cylinder and have the refrigerator maintain the temperature for storing food. The technology is now reliable enough to help more of these devices to become even more functional. The options for home automation are virtually unlimited; the hard part can be deciding where to start.
